Lorenzo Maqced (Città di Castello, 1993) sees his paintings exhibited in Venice for the first time as a guest of Silvio Pasqualini at Blue Gallery, on the occasion of his solo show ABELE, the first in a series conceived and curated by Quadro Zero, running from January 27 to February 25, 2024.

The exhibition explores the concept of intimate storytelling, using self-representation as a vehicle. The artist structures this narrative through a variety of iconographies that navigate both personal and distant territories. Themes such as rage, ecstasy, lust, and loss emerge, each expressed through different pictorial languages.

A home within the self, where the furnishings are made of his inner turmoil. These works, created specifically for the space, are guided by revelatory intuitions in the field of contemporary socio-psychology. The iconographies intertwine in a swirling motion, driven by the impossibility of a singular interpretation.

Lorenzo Maqced’s painting technique is defined by color fields that depict the complex dynamics of friendship and enmity, touching and repelling each other—just like the emotions the artist seeks to highlight. His creative process is always preceded by a phase of research and image assembly, drawing both from personal sources and the collective memory of the World Wide Web.

Maqced’s journey unfolds through recreated scenarios that, only at a later stage, take shape as a kind of visual grammar.
